How do I connect a 'device' to the Internet?

All wireless devices connect to the Internet the same way. Actually, what you do is connect your wireless device to your wireless router, and then the router connects the device to the Internet. It doesn't matter whether it is a computer, laptop, printer, smart phone, game console, DVD player, DVR, smart TV, etc.

STEP 1: Make sure the wireless device's wifi is enabled. Laptops may have a physical on/off switch located along the side of the laptop, or somewhere on the keyboard. Smart phones and tablet PCs (iPad, Android tablets, etc.) need to have wifi enabled (usually under Settings).

STEP 2: Make sure you have the name of your wireless network handy. This is also called an SSID. Basically, it's the name you "see" once you search for wireless networks within range of your device (e.g. NETGEAR99, ASUS-5G, etc.).

Once you "see" your wireless network name, select it and click connect/next or join. You should get "enter password or key" prompt (continue to Step 3).

NOTE: If you do not "see" any wireless networks in range on your device, you likely have the wifi adapter off/disabled. Since every device is different, you'll need to consult the User Guide for instructions on how to turn the wifi adapter on/enabled.

STEP 3: Once you have selected your wireless network, you will be prompted to enter in your password (sometimes called a key or network key). These passwords/keys are case-sensitive, which means "Apple" is a different password than "apple."

Once connected to your router, you may be asked to "Select a location for this network" (Windows computers). The easiest option is just to select "Work."
