How to setup your TP-Link router

Most new routers (or routers that have been reset to factory defaults) have to be taken through the setup wizard before they will successfully connect to the Internet. The instructions included in this article are "TP-Link-generic", but they should give you the information you need to get online. If you are having problems, please contact our Office during normal business hours for assistance.

Connect to your router:

Option 1: The best way to access your router is to use an ethernet (computer) cable between your laptop/computer and any of the router's "LAN" ports (the blue WAN or Internet port is reserved for the Internet source).

Option 2: If you don't have a device with an ethernet port (e.g., an iPad, MacBook Pro, smart phone, etc.), you can try to connect to your router's wifi. Most TP-Link router's have the wifi name of 'TP-Link' (and/or 'TP-Link-5G') and no password.

Option 3: Some routers are best setup using their smart phone app. Search the Google Play or iTunes Store for your router's app.

Once you are connected to your router, open your web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and type "192.168.0.1" (without quotes) or "tplinkwifi.net(without quotes) into your web browser's address bar (at top) and press enter/return. The router has two ways to login - cloud/email and local. Find the link that says "Local Access" and click on that.

When prompted to login to the router, use the username and password of admin (case-sensitive) and click "Log In".

Router setup settings (may change as TP-Link makes changes to their firmware):

  1. Select "Quick Setup" and press Next.

  2. The router will detect your internet connection.

  3. Follow the wizard and accept the default settings. Not all the fields are used, so just click Next through the setup screens (most do not require a field entry by you).

  4. Just change the Wireless Network Names/SSIDs, "enable" Wireless Security and type in your preferred and PSK Password
