Is my connection problem due to my router or the Internet service?

If you are having problems with your connection and want to see if it is a problem with your router or your Internet service, you can do the following test:

Router Bypass Test:

  1. Unplug the ethernet cable (the yellow cable in the image below) from the Internet/WAN port in the back of your router only. Leave the other end of the cable plugged into the antenna's power supply (the LAN port). NOTE: your "yellow" cable may be a different color, and that's OK. Whatever color it is, just make sure it's the cable in the spot below.

  2. Plug that ethernet cable (that you just unplugged from the router) into the network port of your computer/laptop. The network port may be on the back or the side of your laptop, or in the back of your desktop.
NOTE: Macbooks, iPads and other tablet PCs do not have a network port.

  3. (Optional) Disable the wifi connection on your computer, or simply disconnect from your wifi (e.g., NETGEAR 99). You are not using wifi for this test since you are cabled-in directly to the antenna.

  4. Open your web browser (e.g., Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.) and surf the Internet. If the connection is the same as when you were connected through your router, then the problem is likely with your Internet service (Solano Wireless). If the connection is better, then the problem is likely with your router.

  5. Call the Office during business hours so we can help trouble-shoot.
